In Search of Sunshine Day 14 - Universal Hotel

This time two weeks ago we were travelling to Manchester, looking forward to three weeks in the Floridian sun. This time now we are travelling a mile or so up International Drive for a 2 night stay at The Royal Pacific Resort, one of the Lowes hotels connected to Universal Studios.

We have stayed here before, lovely relaxing hotel, too expensive for more than a few nights, but worth it for the Express pass that comes with your reservation, especially at this time of year when it is so busy. Means you get on rides much quicker than usual, and they cost about £70 per person per day if you bought them.

So you ready for some hotel room pics?

We had planned to check in, get express passes and go into the park while waiting for the room, but when we arrived at 12:00 the room was ready so we took up the bags. Hubby wasnt feeling too good, so I said I would take Alexander to the pool while he had a lie down and we would go to the park later. So thats what we did.

As you can see we took full advantage of the poolside services..

Peckish?
There comes a point when you know you are a little overdone in the sun, and despite lashings of suncream, Alexander, being in the pool the whole time was getting a bit pink faced. So we went back into the 'cool' of the hotel. Hubby and Jordan were up in the room watching the GB football match, so I headed off into the lobby area to use wifi and see what was going on down there.

As one expects from this kind of hotel, there was big comfy sofa's free juice and TV screens! I managed to position myself on a sofa where I had a view of both football AND athletics, and free wifi!! There was a bit of a cluster of people watching, mostly Americans, but a few Brits cheering on Mo Farah as he went and won another Gold Medal for Team GB. Shame the football team got knocked out on penalties though.

Stress!!!!
By now hubby was feeling better and we headed out to the park. Had a nice stroll round, the new Despicable Me ride was quite good, although probably beneficial to see the film first so you have an idea of who the characters are! (Like I should have done!). As usual I got the faulty laser gun on Men in Black - Jordan 163,000 points, Alexander 85,0000 points, Mum 45,000 points! Finally we went to see the Horror Make Up Show. We have been to Universal many times over the last 17yrs or so, and never seen this. It was quite entertaining. I even got a small part in the show!

We don't tend to stay late unless we are staying here, so tonight we left after the fireworks and 100 Years of Universal display and went to eat at The Hard Rock Cafe. It was very busy as usual and very loud. Lots of excitable teenagers in large groups didn't help. The servers must go home with a headache every night! Fortunately they sat us in a smaller room - The Elvis Room. Had a lovely salad, the food is quite good, but you are paying for the experience really. City Walk was bustling, the bars and clubs blaring out a range of music. Had it not been 11pm we may have lingered a while, but instead opted to take the Water Taxi back to the hotel.
