I love Twitter. I love that I can pick it up and there is always someone there to share a thought, a picture or grumble with. I love that I have followers who I really like, that make me laugh, feel better and share the same interests.
However, there are some followers who can be very irritating at times. I'm the first to agree that in my old age I'm less tolerant of annoying things and choose not to 'turn a blind eye', but 'get rid of' the annoyance as you would a pair of shoes that nip a bit.
Its not so easy on Twitter.
I like rules, they keep everyone right, and where they should be. I think there should be a moderator on MY Twitter to make sure everyone on my timeline follows MY rules, which would be;
1. When conversing with others do not add everyone else who said "good morning" to the conversation. E.G Morning @Stumpy @Flibbertygibbit @SkunkySarah @OddBob, delete those who you aren't referring to so they (ME) don't have to have their timeline filled with a load of blather about what you had for breakfast. (Unfollow Risk Red)
2. Follow Fridays, Shout Out Saturdays and anything else with a Day and a # are only useful if you give a valid reason for the rest of us (ME) to follow them. I ignore all those tweets that list every single one of a persons 1000 followers. Do you even tweet most of them?? Nope I doubt it so why inflict them on everyone else? A better way to encourage me to follow someone would be.... #FF @gaila88 who is really good at telling jokes, likes cake and makes me LOL a lot. (Unfollow Risk Amber)
3. Moaners. Im sorry, I am a little short on sympathy for my own family when they are miserable or unwell, so the chances of me mopping your brow or swathing you in kind words when you complain of being sick, depressed, hormonal, hungover etc are pretty slim. I will tolerate the odd time or two, but not when most of your tweets cry out for attention. (Unfollow Risk Red)
4. Re-Tweeters. If I wanted to know what all your followers said, did, watched on you tube etc, I would follow them myself. If you think I need to know what @BritneySpeared says every time she tweets, then you are mistaken. Unless its hilariously funny, stupid or life threatening, please keep it on your own timeline. (Unfollow Risk Red)
5. Follower Collectors. Why? I struggle to manage to tweet nicely with just 200 followers. I wouldn't read most tweets if there were more. If you aren't going to read tweets whats the point? You may have work/Interests lists etc which Im ok with, but just a load of random names that you have no intention of tweeting or reading??? (Unfollow Risk Amber)
6. Non responders. You know when someone tweets, and you reply with a comment or suggestion? and then they just ignore you? Well Im talking followers who do this a lot, not just the busy, or have to go, but may reply later types. Why ask for help then ignore the person who gives it? Bad Manners! (Unfollow Risk Amber)
7. Spam. I want anyone with certain words in their bio removed before they even click my Follow button. No need for detail, you know exactly the ones I mean! (Unfollow Risk Red with an additional Report as Spam)
8. Combo Followers. Anyone who has a combination of any of the above, are very likely to test my patience and will be un followed or blocked. Sometimes I unfollow but then follow again because Im prepared to suffer minor annoyance if they are also funny and entertain me. Its my timeline and I'll do what I like with it. (Unfollow Risk Red)
9. Finally the "why have you un followed me?" tweeters? Do I need to explain? If you get un followed, its either because you are one of the above, or occasionally Twitter does it on my behalf, in which case, I will soon notice and follow you again if you are one of my favourites, as you only come up in my mentions list. If not, just accept you're not my kind of tweeter. (Unfollow Risk Red)
10. My favourite followers should modestly accept that they are most honoured to be in my 'special' lists. They should be polite, funny, and do their best to fill my timeline with wonderful things every day. Especially the #EarlyMorningCrew. (Unfollow Risk - not applicable unless you misbehave!)
I feel better for getting that out there. I know some of my followers will read this which is good because its time for a Spring Clean anyway.
Take 2.Great post, sums up many of my frustrations perfectly! You will already know this by now but I'm doing a remarkably similar post this weekend.... :-)
ReplyDeleteTwitter is there also to share information to people, which is what I like to do. Interesting stories that might be hidden away somewhere. Information that I have a personal interest in epilepsy, diabetes & depression. In my opinion that's not wrong.
ReplyDeleteHey - welcome back! I have only just twigged to that fact. Hope that your young fellow is on the mend. And that all is well in your neck of the woods.
ReplyDeleteHi Merinz,Kind of back, but got fingers in lots of pies at the moment! yes LD is well and his usual self. Hope you are all well too.
ReplyDeleteWell - not so great here. Our much loved daughter in law here has cancer, lung cancer. And she has never smoked. She has had a major operation, and now is recovering from the Chemotherapy and radio therapy treatment which is horrendous. Consequently I have hardly been home for the last few months - between her parents, sisters, and us we are managing to keep their home life ticking along and the three small children stable and happy. Our son was able to take two months off work to care for her so that has helped too.We are hoping that the treatment has worked and that she is in remission, but time will tell.
