Fishy Wishies

It was one of those days where 'we' decided to take a day off together and do the things you do without kids pestering you. Things like wandering around camping sales rooms (just because you can) - and in our case strolling hand in hand around the local garden centre admiring the plants and huge variety of garden accessories.

And things like buying a 230 litre fish tank!

No, we didnt set out to buy it, but it was a BARGAIN so instantly became desirable in the eyes of my man.

It came with a filter as big as a Fiat Panda and a nice stand.

Being 'us' we then proceded to spend a small fortune on things to make it look nice. Like a 'Marie Rose' style shipwreck (being ex Navy and all that!).

And then we were told not to put any fish in it for at least a week! A week!! Someone really needs to start selling aquariums 'ready to go'. Like how on earth would 'we' have the patience to wait a week before enjoying the delights of fish swimming happily in our new tank!!

I think it was day 4 that we decided the fish experts didn't know what they were talking about and bought our first fish. We now have about 30 in there. We have lost a few but we are learning that Black Mollies love to play in the jet stream, and that we have a zebra danio that thinks he's a surfer dude. 'Leo' the Bristlenose likes to out-suck 'Sticky' the loach on the bogwood and one of my Blue Rams looks like Alvin Stardust.

I now have a permanent crick in my neck from watching them, and have started to do daily headcounts incase any try to die inside the shipwreck without telling me.

We have also made a decision not to take days off together as we really can't afford it! and I will now need to find somewhere else to put the Christmas Tree!

  1. Welcome back Gail. I'm glad that you dropped me a note. Fish tank ownership is something else we have in common. I have one in my office for the kids that drop by to look at. Only I am down to one very large, ugly, algae eater that a friend gave me. From head to tall he is nearly as long as my 10 gal thank is tall. I keep thinking that I'll go to a pet shop and see if I can do a little trading. It's good to connect with you again. I like your profile pic. Stay "tooned,"Rick

  2. Sounds like a good hobby for ex naval people! I never realised that fish can live for a long time - a friend here has a fish that is about 15 years old, they are thinking that they may have to decide who to leave it to in their will. It has a personality all of its own and frets when they go away and have to leave it with friends.I hope that Sticky and Leo and co stick around as long as that!

  4. Thank you - it's nice to be back, although it will be July before I can give it my full attention so bear with me.At the moment Leo is about 4cm but could grow to about 15 or so. He's quite a character already.
